The Reexamined Life

Think, Inquire, Question

Redefining and Resolving

My name is Kiran Sampath (or so I have been told because can I ever really know anything?). My purpose is to attempt: to attempt to define for myself that which cannot be defined. I will answer (or attempt to) humanity's most ambiguous and open ended questions. In doing so, I hope to bring sense to the most complex dilemmas of your existence while also defining myself as a human being, a philosopher, and an independent thinker

Why do you think what you think? How do you justify what you know? Are your strongest opinions grounded in truth? Or are you really just a malleable sponge floating in the sea space-time, shaped by the local water?

If I were a different race would my opinion...

David Hume treats “the self” as fiction; he threatens the commonly held belief that an enduring self exists by claiming that personal identity is a misleading construct. Because our existence is merely our sensory perceptions at any given point in time when we do not p...

What makes you you?

Is it biology? The ephemeral particles that you are made up of? An instinctive drive embedded in human nature? The fruits of evolution drawing illusions of freewill?

Is it anatomy? The current of billions of neurons and cells rippling into e...

Since 10:15 am last Wednesday, the words have echoed repeatedly in my mind, reminding me, again and again, of my relative insignificance and the futility of life. If a banana is an antidepressant, then Hamlet is inedible.

The following expresses my opinion on a highly considered medical and ethical dilemma. Should people be allowed to buy and sell kidneys?

Currently in the world an abundance of people are on the waiting list, in need of kidney transplants, yet many people are unintereste...

In Nagel’s article, “What Is It Like to Be a Bat,” he essentially argues that some experiences are subjective beyond understanding. As human beings, we have a tendency to reduce the experiences of other species or other beings and conform them into our own mental perce...

Dilemma from anonymous:

"As human being is our fate predestined or do we make choices and employ free will"

Our fundamental value of liberty would be wasted if the very existence of free will is illusory. Moral liberty takes root upon the premise that each individual ch...

My Truth

The concept of "objectivity" relies on the existence of "Universal Truth," and truth is the basis of Philosophy.

Yet, is the Truth dependent upon conformity to facts, or is one's truth a fluid reflection of their mortal psyche?

By virtue of our individualit...
